Hayes Substation Fire Brought Under Control Following Major Heathrow Disruption
A major fire at an electricity substation in Hayes, west London, has been brought under control, according to a statement from the London Fire Brigade.
The blaze, which broke out on Nestles Avenue, caused widespread disruption at Heathrow Airport on Thursday. A transformer at the substation caught fire, prompting a significant emergency response involving around 70 firefighters.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne praised the crews, stating: “Thanks to their efforts and coordinated multi-agency response, we successfully contained the fire and prevented further spread.”
Fire investigators are now on scene to determine the cause, and the Brigade says it is working closely with partners to minimise ongoing disruption and support the local community.
Residents have been urged to keep windows and doors closed due to lingering smoke in the area. Scientific advisers are monitoring local air quality and are expected to remain on-site throughout Friday.
Heathrow Airport continues to manage delays linked to the earlier power disruption, with passengers advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates.
