Membership criteria
The Fire Industry Association represents the highest standard of companies within the fire industry, we take great pride in the credibility and reputation of our members.
To become a member of the FIA, companies must meet a certain eligibility criterion. Only companies that have achieved Third Party Certification (TPC) or are in the process of receiving their Third-Party Certificate are eligible. It is important to note that, Probationary membership is available for up to a year for an organisation which is on their way to achieving accreditation.
Third Party Certification serves as a consumer protection scheme that allows companies to prove their competence. The on-going certification process involves an annual independent audit by a UKAS-accredited certification body who verifies that the company meets specific British Standards and best practices from a business management perspective.
The type of topics covered in the TPC audit include but are not limited standards to:
-
Technical aspects of the specific type of work carried out within that sector of the fire protection industry
Quality management systems such as:
-
Ethical processes; i.e., complaints procedures
-
Environmental processes; i.e., waste management
-
Documentation control
Third Party Certification also allows your customers to choose your services with confidence in your level of competence. Responsible persons by law need to prove they have selected competent people for the task at hand, and using a third-party certified company is the quickest and easiest way for them to do this.
